New Zealand Dominate In Bulawayo

New Zealand Dominate In Bulawayo

The England versus India series has been well matched across the four games so far with the hosts carrying a narrow lead into the final Test, and many cricket experts are predicting a close T20I series between West Indies and Pakistan, but this first Test between Zimbabwe and New Zealand is already proving to be something of a mis-match after only one day!

State Of The Test After Day One

Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first but not much else went their way following the toss of the coin in Bulawayo!

Not even three overs had been completed before the in-form Matt Henry started to get stuck into the Zimbabwean line-up and he had opener Brian Bennett caught by Will Young to start the dominoe effect.

Captain Craig Ervine top scored with 39 as the hosts were bowled out for 149 with Henry ending with figures of 6/39.

Following that innings, New Zealand cruised to 92 without loss and will begin day two trailing by 57 runs but with all ten wickets remaining.

New Zealand Openers Have The Opportunity To Go Big

Will Young (41*) and Devon Conway (51*) will resume on Thursday in Bulawayo and both will be eyeing a big score and the chance to really boost their averages which both sit in the 30s.

Will Young's Last Five Test Innings
Opposition Score
India 23
India 71
India 51
England 42
England 60

Devon Conway's Last Five Test Innings

Opposition Score
India 91
India 76
India 4
England 2
England 11

Most cricket experts would fancy the chances of both players to go on and make three figure scores in this game and there are plenty of opportunities to back them to do so.

What will the plan be for New Zealand

Bat big and bat once! That is likely to be the plan for the Black Caps who will happily bat for the whole of Thursday and Friday - there is no rush at all.

The bookies have seen enough already with the following odds on offer!

  • New Zealand to win - 1.00
  • Zimbabwe to win - 51.00
  • Draw - 51.00
